HMCS, RSP CHOIRS WIN E205 000
JOHANNESBURG – The mission from the onset was not to participate, but to compete and win and they did just that.
Royal Swaziland Police Choir and His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir did the country proud and they brought home prize money amounting to E205 000. This was last Sunday night during the Old Mutual Choral Music Festival finals, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, at the Standard Bank arena.
His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir scooped second position in the Large Section category and this saw them winning a sum of E90 000.
In this category, the choir competed with nine other choirs.
On the other hand Royal Swaziland Police Choir scooped the first position in the Large Indigenous Section category. In this category, the choristers performed their own choice traditional pieces.
The Police Choir made the country proud as it scooped the first position in the indigenous section taking home a sum of E75 000.
Both choirs were also given a participation fee of E20 000 each.
In the large category section, His Majesty’s Correctional Services choir competed with seven other choirs.
Joy
These included Sounds of Joy, North West University Choir, NWU Serenades, Free State Choristers, Western Chorale, Zwelisha Adult Choir and Kopano Choristers.
The competition in this category was tight as all the 11 choirs tried their best to impress the adjudicators. Through the different traditional dancing and singing displayed by almost all the choirs, it was not clear at first who the winner would be as all the choirs were at their best.
