JOHANNESBURG - His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir is a force to be reckoned with.

This is how choral music lovers described the choir during the Old Mutual Choral music Festival pre- finals last Saturday.
The choir led by Melisizwe Zwane received  a standing ovation as it gave a classical performance that saw everyone who attended the festival singing  the choristers praises. The choir performed only one song as it only sang the western  category song titled  ‘Mimanca La Voce’.The Mutual Festival finale kicked off last Saturday with the pre –finale.

In this section which was the large category section, the choir competed with 10 other choirs. These included Joyful Harmonies, Royal Swaziland Police Choir, Zwelisha Adult Choir, NWU Serenadors, Kopano Chorus, Sounds of Joy, North West University Choir, Western Chorale and Free State Choristers, The competition in this category was tight as all the choirs tried their best to impress the adjudicators.

His Majesty’s Correctional was the sixth to enter the stage. The choristers made sure that they left the over 2 000 people who attended the  pre- final screaming for more. After the performance, Zwane, the choir conductor said he was  almost certain that they would not go home empty handed  especially after seeing the reaction from the choral music fans.

Also failing to contain his joy was His Majesty’s Commissioner General Muzuthini Ntshangase who was also present. Together with Busisiwe Simelane, Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) Board Chairperson they celebrated the choir’s performance. The Board Chairperson was among those who attended the Old Mutual Choral Music  pre -finals. They were seated together with the Commissioner General and their faces were filled with smiles as the choir represented the country very well on the stage.
