MANZINI – After a tough and exciting STANLIB Champ of Champs Karate Tournament on Saturday, Swaziland managed to get three gold medals.

This was at Mavuso Sports Emporium where Swazis did not disappoint but crammed the arena to watch the spectacular tournament hosted by the country’s Oyama Association. As always, South Africa was present with its World Cup champions but nothing came on a silver platter for them.

The country’s fighters fought so bravely and managed to keep home three titles while failing to defend some that they had won last year. World Cup 2014 star Sibhamu Mngometulu won the Under-80kg, Ladies champion Joy Ononogbu defended the Open weight title while Xolile Dlamini won the ladies under-65kg. All three titles came after hard work from the Swazi fighters and it could have been more titles but due to a replay in one of the male finals following a protest by South Africa, the male under-65kg was won by Sibonelo Ncube, a national champion in his home country.

The event was graced by, among others, Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) CEO Darius Dlomo and Business Development Manager Zama Tsabedze as well as STANLIB Swaziland’s Senior Business Development Manager Mlungisi Lukhele.
