NO MISS SD THIS YEAR

MBABANE – Young girls who were hoping to take part in the Miss Swaziland Beauty Pageant will not have that opportunity following a decision to cancel the pageant.

The decision to cancel the pageant was taken by Pageant Swaziland (Pageant SD) during a meeting held last week.
Also present during the meeting was a representative from the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC).

Information gathered is that the decision to cancel the pageant which Pageant SD had initially anticipated conducting this month or next month came after the SNCAC wanted to know about the progress of the event.

Appointed

Pageant SD had appointed Nosisa Maziya to direct the pageant.
It was not clear why the committee decided to cancel the pageant as no one wanted to state the reasons that led to this decision.
First to be asked about cancelling the pageant was Stanley Dlamini, SNCAC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who confirmed meeting the Pageant SD committee.

However, the CEO said Pageant SD committee members were the rightful people to share information that concerned the pageant.
“All I can confirm is our meeting with Pageant SD. Pageant SD has all the information about what will happen regarding Miss Swaziland Beauty Pageant.

Catrien Potgieter, Pageant SD’s Committee Chairperson only confirmed that the pageant would not be held this year.
She said the committee took a decision to postpone the pageant due to certain circumstances which she asked not to share for now.
“Miss Swaziland will not be held this year,” she said.

Postponing

She made it clear that the reason that led to the postponement of the pageant would only be revealed during a press conference to be held on Monday.
“As I speak, I am currently in a meeting and I believe during the press conference we will be able to give all answers regarding the pageant,” she said.

Nosisa Maziya, the pageant’s director could not be reached for comment as her phone was off.
The last Miss Swaziland Beauty Pageant was held last year at the Happy Valley Hotel where Linda Hutchison was crowned as the queen.
