MBABANE – It will be held for the first time but the choirs that will participate and win will go home with their pockets loaded with cash.

Overall winners of the Catholic Choral Music Festival will take home a sum of E18 000  out of the E250 000 sponsorship. The choirs expected to share the prize money are 16 in total.

The competition scheduled for this weekend at the Sports Emporium Hall at Kwaluseni has been sponsored by a good Samaritan who happens to be a Catholic.  The church member pumped in a sum of E250 000 for the festival.  The organisers said the sponsor preferred to remain anonymous as the E250 000 sponsor

The festival will be divided into the large, standard gender and solo sections.  The overall winner will take home a sum of E18 000 while coming second in the large category will take home E13 000.

Philip Gama, who is  the festival’s organising committee Chairperson said the church member who decided to sponsor the festival felt there was a need for Catholic church choirs to come together and sing.

Gama said the only way of doing this was to come up with a festival where all the choral Catholic choirs would come together .
He said they had already conducted workshops for the mixed choirs adding that they were now busy preparing for the soloists workshop which would be followed by the eliminations before the main finals.
