NKONYENI – ‘Number 1!’

That was one word that rose above the screams coming from the audience that seemed to have already identified the winner for the night.
The night that proved to be a huge success, with over 300 people gathered at the prairie of Nkonyeni Golf Estate to witness the crowning of the next Miss Teen Swaziland 2017. The event which was scheduled to start at 6pm ended up delaying up until 9pm and that’s when the Patron of Miss Teen Swaziland, Fatima Loureiro greeted the crowd and assured them that everything was all set and ready, and contestants were ready to compete for the crown.
Family and friends of each of the 14 contestants were present and they would now and again scream and cheer when one of their own would appear on stage. The confident contestants made a grand entrance with Beyoncé’s ‘Run the World’ ballad blasting through the speakers.

They portrayed well-choreographed moves that set a  great mood among the crowd who were taken by the music, and were seen lost in concentration on what was happening on stage.  Then there was the time when the contestants introduced themselves, that’s when it was clear who the crowd’s favourite was. In the midst of the vibrant crowd that kept sharing their thoughts, there were seven judges who consisted of former Miss Swaziland Vinah Mamba Grey, Patron for Miss Teen Swaziland Fatima Lourreiro, former  Mr Swaziland Sifiso Motsa and  former Mr South Africa contenders Tshepo Tswayi and Sydney Makoya.

Two out of the 14 contestants who participated on the night had the opportunity to show the audience their talents. Tyra Johnson, who ended up taking home the title of being Miss Teen Swaziland, mimicked South Africa’s sensation, Amanda Black’s song titled ‘Amazulu’ while on the other hand, Emihle Dzimba displayed her designs that entailed a crop top and kimono. She used  the Swazi lihiya material to make her ready to wear collection.
Her presentation of these fashion pieces revealed that the reason why she would opt for such is that she was looking at means to try curbing the rate of unemployment among the youth of Swaziland.

Towards the crowning session, the crowd had already had their predictions on who the top three winners of the night would be. When the MC of the night announced the top five which comprised of Refilwe Mangwe, Emihle Dzimba, Mbali Fonseca, Nina Zwane and Tyra Johnson, the crowd was already  screaming their lungs out saying that contestant number one (Tyra Johnson) deserved the crown.
