MBABANE – The choral music fraternity seems to be  well monied. A good Samaritan who happens to be a Catholic believer has offered a whopping sum of E250 000 towards a choral competition.

The sponsorship has since seen a competition known as the Catholic Choral Music Festival being born.
The sponsorship of the competition which is scheduled for September 23 at the Kwaluseni Sports Emporium Hall was announced yesterday.

The festival will be divided into four sections and these being the large, standard, gender and the solo sections.
The overall winner will take home a sum of E18 000 while those coming second in the large category will take home E13 000.

Confirming the sponsorship, Philip Gama, who is the festival’s organising committee chairperson, said the church member who decided to sponsor the festival felt there was a need for Catholic Church choirs to come together and sing.
Gama said the only way of doing this was to come up with a festival where all the choral catholic choirs would come together and compete.

He said they had already conducted workshops for the mixed choirs adding that they were now busy preparing for the soloists workshop which will be followed by the eliminations before the main finals.

“This is one festival which is happening for the first time and we are pleased with the support we have received from the church member. The only thing he wants to see is choristers singing,” he said.
