MBABANE – “I was made to buy a dress in Dubai for the MTN SWAMA Awards”. These were words said by the Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini as he made his remarks on Monday during the MTN SWAMA Awards winners’ prize presentation.

He said in preparation to attend the first ever MTN SWAMA Awards his ‘significant’ other made him buy her a dress in Dubai to look glamorous during the event but later they could not attend because he had to go and represent the King in Iran.

“I hope that next year, however, I will be able to attend so I also get the chance to witness Swazi talent,” Dlamini said.
However, yesterday the Government’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane said what the prime minister had said about a possible new partner was just him joking and that none exists and that he was overwhelmed about how the event was a success and well executed.

On the other hand, phone notifications were the order of the day as SWAMA Awards winners got their prize money.
A week after they were announced winners of this year’s SWAMA Awards, local artists were on Monday being awarded with their prize monies via MTN Mobile Money at the MTN Headquarters offices in Zulwini.
The prize presentation was attended by the prime minister, the Minister of Sports Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala.

A short sneak peak promo video from the Beat Down Show which showed what happened on the day of the awards was played on the night showing some of the winners who took home awards on the day.
MTN CEO Ambrose Dlamini said by the feedback that they had been getting from social media and the public in general they as MTN can safely say the MTN SWAMA Awards were well executed and a world class event that celebrated the talent that local artists have.

“We would like to congratulate all the winners and also encourage those that did not win to keep working hard on their talents.
Thanks to Swazi MTN customers for participating in voting for their favourite artists,” said Dlamini during his speech.

He further sent gratitude to the Honourable Prime Minister, for supporting the MTN SWAMA Awards initiative from  when it was just an idea.
On the other hand, Minister of Sports Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala said that local artists play an important role in the development of the economy. He also took his time thanking the Prime Minister on his contribution towards bettering the lives of local artists as he introduced a Bill of artists in Parliament.
