MBABANE – It was all a toy story. Believe it or not South African Gospel star Dr Tumi was right when he said he suspected that the cheque sent to him as  proof of payment was fraudulent.

The Entertainment Desk today reveals that the cheque amounting to E57 000 that was sent to Dr Tumi was not authentic.
Dr Tumi was paid with a cheque from ATG Investments, a company based in Mbabane. The company is directed by Allred Mavuso.

Dr Tumi sent the Entertainment Desk a copy of a cheque sent to him by Toy Story Charity organisation’s Sandile Dlamini.
The cheque amounted to E57 000. However, it has turned out that the cheque had been forged.
Yesterday morning, ATG Investments Director visited the Times of Swaziland with the intention of clearing his company’s name.

Mavuso made it clear that he had never issued any payment directed to Dr Tumi.  Instead, Mavuso claimed to have given Dlamini a  cheque amounting to E7 000 which was to be used for personal business not for the show.
Mavuso explained that he had given Dlamini a blank cheque with his signature.  “I later decided that the cheque should not be directed to anyone but instead it should be brought back to me. It was brought back blank as it was,” he said.
Mavuso said he suspects that a copy of the blank cheque was copied before being taken back to him.

“I was surprised when I saw my cheque in the paper. I then went back to my files and found the blank cheque. As you can see the signature is mine and the cheque number is the same. What amazes me is how the organisers of the event sent the same cheque to the artist that has a different figure all together,” he said.
He said he would report the matter to the police as he strongly believes that his company was used in a wrong transaction.
“The surprising thing is that I have the original cheque. I have more questions than answers,” he said.  Mavuso said he was sorry to all those who were affected saying he was not involved in any way in this issue. “I am a businessman and I pay people with cheques from time to time. This is very serious because people will no longer trust me each time I pay with a cheque. I just do not know what happened and I am really sorry about everything,” he said.
Dlamini said he would visit the Mbabane Police Station where he would report the matter.
