MBABANE – While local Mbaqhanga and maskandi musicians have not been receiving the recognition they deserve, this will now be history as they have been given an opportunity to promote their music on the South African TV station, KZN TV.

The TV station has invited the traditional music singers to submit their music so they can be selected and screened in the station’s leading traditional programme known as ‘Okwethu’.
Responsible for the production of the programme, on  behalf of the station is a company known as Ubuntu Productions.
Those artists who believe in themselves can start submitting their material as from today so they can be scheduled for a shoot.

The CD demos can be dropped off at the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) offices.
Ubuntu Productions normally does the shoots once a month. The Mbaqhanga and Maskandi musicians have been asked to submit their demo CD’s so that the producers can listen and see if they match the standard of the programmes.

Confirmed

Stanley Majika, the production’s Communications Producer confirmed that they were looking for local traditional and opera musicians who would be featured on their programmes.
“Swazis are talented and it is the talent we have seen that made us to take a decision of looking for artists who will be featured on our programmes. Among other artists we are looking for are those that sing traditional music,” he said.
He said those who want to be featured would have to rearrange songs which would be given to them.

“We already have a few songs that are circulating and these include some from artists such as Hhashelimhlophe, Boomshaka and Bambanani. These are some of the artists songs that would be given to the artists,” he said.
He added, that they we are hoping that they will unearth the best artists locally who have all the talent but have been lacking the platform.
