MBABANE – Choral Music Choirs have to work hard this year as the SNCMA aims to take at least five choirs to the Old Mutual Choral Music Festival finals.

The much awaited festival will start with the local eliminations scheduled for August 13 at Esibayeni Lodge.
According to the scheduled, the finals are likely to be held in December at a venue to be confirmed.

Among the choirs expected to compete in the festival which happens to be one of the biggest choral music festivals are Manzini Choir, Royal Swaziland Police Choir, Mbabane Methodist Church Choir, His Majesty’s Correctional Services, Royal Swazi Spa Choir and Florence Catholic Church Choir.

The festival organisers have urged choirs to prepare themselves for the festival as it will be one of the best.

Bheki Maziya, Swaziland National Choral Music Association (SNCMA) said the schedule was in the country’s choir’s favour.

Compete

“We are very excited that we are among the first to compete so we will be able to set the standard. This puts the choirs especially those that would be competing in the large section in a better position of performing well this year,” he said.
Maziya said participating choirs should start preparations as early as possible as they want to have more choirs competing in the finals.
“The whole intention is to take at least five choirs to the finals and this will only happen if we prepare well. I believe with the standard we are in as local choirs, we will be able to maintain it even internationally,” he said.
