MBABANE – Gospel fans always look up to their favourite singers but a cloud of doubt is hovering over many fans today.

Well known gospel musician Zaga Dlamini is currently in custody after being arrested last Friday, June 9. He is facing a charge of ‘Theft under False Pretences’.
The ‘Nkundzimalanga’ fame artist was arrested by police officers stationed at the Matsapha Police Station at Sigodweni.

It is alleged that the gospel singer conned some people between Manzini and Matsapha  of money amounting to over E45 000.
When he allegedly took the money from these people, he allegedly promised them that he would  make sure that they or their relatives become members of the Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force (USDF).
Information gathered is that for the past three months, police have been investigating the matter after it had been formally reported to them. The investigations led them  to the esteemed gospel singer  Zaga as one of the main  suspects. Police quickly pounced on him after getting the relevant evidence on Friday.

Chief Police Communications and Information Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed the arrest saying the suspect was yet to appear before the court of law.
“Yes, Zaga is is currently under the hands of the police pending his appearance in court,” he said.

On Saturday morning, most gospel artists were talking about the arrest of the artist. Some of them did not believe  the news as none of them were sure if the rumours of his arrest was true or not.
Contacted yesterday morning was Ronnie Dlamini, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland (ACASWA) who said he was not aware of the matter.

“That’s news to me. None of the executive members are aware, I will have to do my own investigations just to check if the matter is true or not,” he said.
The Entertainment Desk also called some of the gospel artists in the country. All those who were contacted asked not to talk about their colleague’s arrest. While some of them were aware of the matter, the rest asked  not to discuss it in  detail for now.
