MTN SWAMA AWARDS NOMINEES REVEALED!
MATSAPHA – Music lovers are eagerly waiting to see which music genre is the most followed between gospel and secular music.
It seems as if all eyes will be on gospel artist Nothando Hlophe and soul musician Sandziso ‘Sands’ Matsebula in the first ever MTN SWAMA Music Awards, as they have each been nominated five times.
The nominations were revealed during an intimate classy ‘by invite only’ nomination party held at Esibayeni Lodge on Saturday night.
Artists came in numbers as they all wanted to know if they would be part of the nominated artists.
By 6:30pm, most artists were already at the venue as they did not want to miss any of the proceedings.
As expected, the ‘Tigi’ fame artist Sands went home with five nominations. Sands was first nominated in the Afro-pop category.
He was also nominated in the male artist, artist of the year and song of the year categories and Best Music Video category.
Pulling a surprise on the night was the ‘Khulul’ugcobo’ fame artist Nothando Hlophe, who also matched Sands as she also scooped five nominations.
She was nominated in the Song of the Year category through her song titled ‘Khululu’gcobo’, Artist of the Year, Best Newcomer, Best female artist and Best gospel Group.
Also getting a number of nominees was Afro jazz artsi Bholoja Ngubane, who got nominated four times.
He was nominated on the Best Soul Artist, Best Afropop, Best Jazz and Best Male artist.
Other artists who also did well on the night include Quad Element Mozaik and Flameboy Universe.
