MBABANE – His fans have nominated him, he values them but he believes declining the nomination is the best way to go.

Gospel artist Apostle Vusumuzi Maculuve has declined his nomination for the much awaited MTN SWAMA Awards.
Maculuve is among the gospel artists who were informed of their nomination and were asked to accept or decline the nomination.

The gospel singer of  ‘Kwahlalwa Phasi’ fame has made it clear that the only reason that made him decline the nomination was simply because he is a man of the cloth and does  not want to be seen competing with others who happen to also be preachers through music.

“First of all may I take this opportunity to appreciate the throngs and throngs of fans who believe in my music and talent so much that they nominated me and I must say that has gone a long way in the entire music ministry that I and my choir produce,” he said.
However Maculuve said while he appreciated that his fans had nominated him, he had a personal conviction when it comes to the nomination.

“First of all, I support the endeavour in recognising works of art, nonetheless for spiritual works my take is that it better be honorary awards than earthly judges deciding on spiritual works. I fully believe a gospel song is a sermon. No one on earth has a right of comparing sermons,” he said.

He added, “At the same time, who is fit to say that man of God is better than another man of God. This is not soccer or any other sporting activity,” he said.
He went on to say that he strongly believed that he was not better than any of those who are in the industry as they are all serving the same purpose.
