MBABANE – Where there is sugar and honey, it always becomes a home for bees.  It is the same case with gospel artists who are now over excited with the MTN SWAMA Awards.

While the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) Board took a decision of not allowing gospel artists who are affiliated to the  Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland (ACASWA), the gospel artists who have received letters informing them about their nomination into the awards now want the SNCAC Board through their mother body ACASWA to review the decision.

Nominated

The artists who have been nominated and now await the final selection by the independent judges started receiving communication informing them about the nominations on Friday.
Some of the excited artists posted their nomination letters  on their social  media network pages, Facebook and Twitter, where they informed their fans that they had been nominated and were praying that they would be part of the final list to be submitted by the judges.
Some of the gospel artists called the Entertainment Desk expressing their joy for being nominated thanking their fans for believing in  their music.

Concerned

However, they mentioned that while they accepted the nomination, they were concerned about the resolution taken by the Board to exclude ACASWA subscribing artists.
They felt the SNCAC Board should reconsider its decision because in as far as they were concerned; the awards were a great platform for the artists to shine and also show the public how best they are in the gospel music industry.
One of the artists said he was planning to engage ACASWA as he believed his nomination was important.

“This is a great platform for us as gospel music artists and I must thank the MTN SWAMA Awards committee for considering us. We are aware that we are not SWAMA affiliates, but the fact that we have been considered, shows that we have an impact in the country’s music industry,” said the artist.
Another artist said what was good was that the nomination was done by the public not the organisers.

Compete

“This just is just a sign of how important gospel music is in the country. I believe that by us taking part in these awards, it will make the country be seen that it has artists who compete worldwide.’’
Ronnie Dlamini, ACASWA Public Relations Officer (PRO) said in as far as ACASWA was concerned the matter was now being handled by the SNCAC Board.
“We will wait for the Board to tell us the way forward otherwise at the moment we cannot comment much on this matter,” he said.
