MATSAPHA – “We have killed Van Damme’.  This is the sweet song that marked the closing of the Standard Bank 2017 Choral Music Championship.

No other choir could sing this song except for the Mbabane Methodist Choir as they celebrated their win.
For them becoming winners was not that important but what pleased the choristers was outclassing His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir.

All along, Correctional Services has been famous for dominating in choral music but on Sunday night, the dominancy came to an end.
When the competition held at the UNISWA’s Sports Emporium Hall started everyone had tipped Correctional Services as the overall winners in the large section.

Little did they know that the church choir conducted by Menzi Gule would come with a surprised performance which beat all the choirs they competed against.

Winning

Apart from Correctional Services, the winning choir competed against the Royal Swaziland Police Choir, Sweet Sounds and Manzini Choir.
Opening the stage in the large section was His Majesty’s Correctional Services. As they went on stage, everyone stood up as it was clear that they would give one of the best performances of the day.

They did not disappoint as they gave one of their best performances. After this performance, most music lovers thought there would be no other choir that would sing better than the choir under the leadership of Commissioner General Muzuthini Ntshangase.
