MANDY, MCEE, OOOH THEY SO SENSITIVE!

It has been an eventful week for the local comedy industry and its followers as there has been an ongoing beef between two of our local comedians who have both had a fare share of breaking into the scene.

One may be taken by surprise at the fact that comedians actually do have feelings and can get emotional too. Those addicted or rather well versed into these social media streets can tell you just how much a mere ‘Projector’ has caused a feud between Mandy real name Mandy Ginindza and Mcee, real name Nduduzo Nkonyane.

Fast forward to me sitting down with the both of them and actually interveiwing them. It wasn’t easy getting them to be at the same place but i must say, however, that these two take their brands seriously as they swallowed up their ‘beef’ for a good two hours to chat to me.

From my observation, these are just two talented comedians who in actual fact are both dreaming of almost the same things as far as their comedy careers are concerned, but the question that everyone wants to know about is ‘Why are they beefing?’

Mandy: Trust me I also do not know, all I know is I bought a E100 worth ticket to a show to support a fellow comedian. But we got there and it was not the normal ‘stand up comedy show’ as he had all his jokes shown in the form of a projector. So as usual, like any other person would, i posted on my Facebook page questioning this ‘new way’ of stand up comedy.

Next thing i know i was called a ‘fool’ because i brought up the projector topic. I’m still shocked how does that happen though? When rappers beef they tend to beef over things that belong to them but here we are beefing over a projector. I have nothing against him but I am against the fact that he called me a fool for absolutely no good reason. He must focus on growing his content and brand. We are comedians, we make fun of other people every day and that doesn’t mean we go around catching feelings when they shade us back.

Mcee: It is not really a beef per say but a misunderstanding. I’m not going to shift blame on Mandy here because I’m smarter than that. What I can say is that, at times if not always, they have been provoking me with the other comedian which i will not name on this platform. I guess i have had enough of their under carpet provoking jokes so i decided i would address it and call people out to stop picking on me.

And this issue is dissolved already, i did say my apologies to my fans and friends and Mandy if she got to see it. I decided to unfriend her on my social media and others to. I’d advise Mandy to just focus on her career.

Having listened to both sides of what really triggered the beef that these two had, looking from the side that i am in, i noticed just how much they did tolerated each other’s company and that for me made things a bit tense as being the middle man and the journalist i had to get to the bottom of this for the sake of the fans. I then decided i would just focus on the positive sides that both their careers have experienced.

Mandy: I get my inspiration from testimonials from fellow comedians who have in actual fact made a career out of this genre. I was born a humorous person but my discovery of being a comedian was in 2015. My biggest challenge of being a comedian is that we are never taken serious especially in serious situations; another challenge is some people still do not understand comedy when we joke about them they take it personally.  Otherwise i don’t do comedy only; i am also at school pursuing my studies in Public Relations.

Mcee: One of the challenges that i go through is trying to get gigs. There are not enough platforms that provide comedians to show off their talent and actually entertain people in the country. However, after my one man show, people have started recognising me and i am slowly getting gigs. Besides being a comedian, i am a qualified Design and Technology Teacher.

Whether it’s a lone comic entertaining the audience while denouncing hecklers, a group of comedians roasting a fellow performer comedy is all about competition. Stand-up, talk-show hosts, and actors with a flair for the humorous will always try to best their professional colleagues, but the back-and-forth is usually friendly.

However, sometimes all camaraderie is thrown to the wayside. When that happens, comedians have been known to get into some pretty nasty arguments with each other — resulting in feuds that have lasted for years, and sometimes decades.
As we thought this kind of behaviour was only overseas where comedy emerged we were never ready to actually experience this kind of heat from our local comedians who towards the end of the interview and to this day haven’t really ‘buried the hatchet’ or maybe someone, anyone is thinking of a one on one battle of the comedians show?
