MBABANE – Love him or hate him, there is no denying Sands is here to make a historic mark with his music.

The trailblazing Swazi sensation has become one of the few artists to claim the number one spot on the local Top 20 charts for a record six times, with his song ‘Umphefumulo’ topping the charts.
The song, which is collaboration with Swazi’s own songbird Velemseni, toppled ‘Get away’ by The Scientists a fortnight ago to claim the number one spot.

It retained the number one spot again last Friday. It is found in the runaway album ‘Sands of time’, an album described by many as among the best ever to come out of Swaziland.

Sands has previously occupied the number one sport with songs ‘Hole in her heart’ and ‘Ntfombatane lenhle’ (both as part of the duo Qibho and Sands), and solo projects ‘Inhlitiyo’, ‘Vuma’, and ‘Tigi’.

Interestingly, ‘Ntfombatane lenhle’ was crowned Song of the Year in the ultimate Top 40 Hits of the Year in 2014; ‘Vuma’ was crowned Song of the Year in 2015, and ‘Tigi’ was crowned Song of the Year in 2016 – a feat no other artist has achieved so far.

Collaborative
