NO TRAINED TEACHERS FOR ART SYLLABUS

MBABANE – The Arts syllabus which was proposed for local schools is presently in limbo as there are currently little to no professionally trained teachers in schools to carry out the duties of teaching children in practical arts.

Besides there being no qualified teachers that the National Curriculum Centre has identified, the Times Entertainment Desk has established that there is also a lack of resources currently to ensure that the final phases of the syllabus are completed and it is piloted in schools.
This was confirmed by several sources, including one from the National Curriculum Centre.

Talks and preparations for the arts syllabus to be introduced in schools have been four years in the making, according to the sources.
“The process has been in place for several years now but we are currently challenged with resources to push the next phases of the arts syllabus.

Another challenge that we are faced with is there being a lack of qualified teachers in the disciplines the syllabus should cover in schools,” said  a source in the National Curriculum Centre who preferred not to be named.

The Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture is a partner to all the relevant departments that are tasked with making sure that this syllabus finally sees light of day.
It could not be ascertained whether the fiscal crisis that the Swaziland Government is currently facing is the reason behind the art syllabus currently being challenged in terms of progression into the schools’ syllabus.

Efforts to establish this proved futile as Ministry of Education and Training Principal Secretary Pat Muir‘s phone rang unanswered for the better part of yesterday morning and afternoon.
