TEMA, DOMINIC ARE MBABANE’S FRESHEST

 MATSAPHA – It might have been a late starter, but eventually Mbabane’s 2017 ‘Freshest’ king and queen had to be chosen.

Bachelor of Environmental students Tema Bhembe and Dominic Tembe were crowned Mr and Miss Mbabane Fresher’s 2017.
The two won the hearts of the judges during the pageant held at the University of Swaziland’s Multi Purpose Hall (MPH) in Kwaluseni on Friday night.  The competition seemed to be tight as all the students who participated were confident and came with one intention, to win.

The Mr Fresher’s catergory saw 15 male students taking part while the Miss Fresher’s also had 15 young ladies vying for the crown.  The pageant was a late starter as it started after midnight. Despite the fact that it started late, the audience was keen to see the winners on the night.
As the contestants walked on the ramp the audience would make their own choice while leaving the final judgment to be done by the judges.  The contestants first walked on the ramp in couples before coming in one by one in their formal wear. 

As they walked on the stage, the judges would score points for each so they could be in a position of coming up with the winner. The contestants were not asked to introduce themselves as they only paraded in front of the judges.

It was not an easy task for the judges to pick the final winner, they would make a decision and revisit it again. This happened three times before announcing the night’s freshest of them all.  Even after the top five on both the male and female students had been announced, it was still not easy to pick the winner as they all looked certain of winning the crown.

Some of the students who were watching tried to make their own choice but it did not go according to that of the judges.
After Bhembe and Tembe had been announced as the night’s winners, the audience was content with the judge’s choice.
