MANZINI – The George Hotel came to life with music  on Saturday night as over 70 guests were serenaded by local  artists.

This was during the hotel’s event dubbed ‘The Jam Session’. The feeling of nostalgia exuded in the atmosphere as fun lovers were taken back into the late 90’s by Judoah who performed a Kwaito medley that included hits made popular by South African groups TKZee, Soul Brothers, Mafikizolo and Zahara among many artists. The response from the crowd affirmed his dexterity with the keys as he not only serenaded them with his vocals but also played the keyboards. With this being a live session, he had engaged the crowd and adhered to their demands.

“I had a great time and the crowd was responsive to what I played which was quite encouraging,” he said after his performance.
Judoah further appreciated the concept by the hotel and said it was promoting their art as performers. He also said it was affording them the experience and exposure they needed to make it in the industry. Meanwhile, Mbali, a 17-year- old Zambian artist who just completed her high school at Sifundzani, rekindled relations among lovers in the crowd as she performed ‘When we were young’ by Adele and ‘Far gone’ by Rosẽ. Mbali appreciated the response from the crowd and further shared that she was passionate about music as she started singing at a tender age.

One would be forgiven for thinking that Gospel Jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum was in the country, as Archie Morale played  ‘Can we talk’ by the American Jazz icon.  This was during the performance of the Synchronised Band. Other crowd favourites were songbirds Nomalungelo and Floewe. They had the guests moving to their rhythm and off their chairs dancing.
The more mature crowd preferred to  enjoy their drinks while seated  and simple  tapped their feet and nodded their heads as the acts performed a variety of songs.
