FIVE DIPLOMAS IN MODELLING

The beauty, who isn’t afraid to share her experience with Style reveals that she comes from an extended family in Nsenga Village. She spent her early childhood at Nkoyoyo and Mbekelweni while being raised by her grandmother.

The beauty studied Call Centre Management and Modelling of which she holds five diplomas in modelling and also three cards and portfolio modelling accolades. In 2015, she participated in the South African Top Model and bagged home five medals; one of which was gold, one silver and three bronze.

Sihlongonyane is also a Pageant SD Board member and has participated in organising the Miss Swaziland show.  “I have a big heart for people with disability, less privileged also what is of most importance in my heart is that I want to work towards protecting the girl child as I have seen how much they be come victims of abuse,” said Sihlongonyane.

The Pageant SD Board member has graced the runway during the recent Tshwane Fashion Festival. “I was excited to be part of such a creative movement though at first I experienced anxieties because we were hard at rehearsing being perfect. However, I am glad that I was able to raise the Swazi flag as I modelled in garments made of the Swazi lihiya.”

Sihlongonyane is currently working for an organisation that deals with human rights and abuse. She said juggling in-between her 8 to 5 job and the other modelling job hasn’t been easy as a lot of people often think she is a Barbie doll and cannot exactly be firm at her work. However, she says that hasn’t backed her down and the love for the modelling industry because she solemnly believes that she was made for the runway and that she hopes to educate a lot of young girls who aspire to be models one day.

The professional model says she hopes that the outlook that people have towards models and  beauty queens would change as most people think these are just beautiful girls without brains.
“It is crazy really because well, when people ask me what I do with my life I tell them about my 8 to 5 job yes, then when I tell them about my other job, which is modelling, you would notice that they quickly just change and give out funny vibe I mean, what is wrong really? It is also a job, look at how models such as Joel Kayembe turned out?”

Sihlongonyane further goes on to say that the hardest part to being in this kind of industry is when you have to give hope and uplift the other ladies that have been judged and pulled down by society.
“You know, before we all walk down that runway, there are some of us who go through a number of emotions because of the self-doubt that they have. Some say they have been judged by the cellulite that they have, their skin tone, their body size, and what I always tell them is that they shouldn’t let all this hate get into their head because it is not worth it. Why throw away the towel without even trying? Why would one listen to another person’s hate speech when they don’t even know what you eat before you go to bed?

“It is sickening really, we need to let our significant others be, don’t you think?” So an important question remained: What does a runway model eat when she’s prepping for weeks of runway shows? Here, Ncediswa reveals her insider tips to keeping her model clients slim and energised. (Spoiler alert: There is chocolate.) It’s not how many calories you eat, but how you eat them.

“I never count calories. I base my meal plans and system of eating on seasonality, alkalinity, and food combining. The last is probably most important, because it ensures proper digestion: With food combining, it’s important not to mix proteins and carbohydrates in the same meal as it will impede proper digestion and cause bloating, gas, and constipation.” Your meals should start light, and get heavier as the day goes on.
“Begin your day with warm water and lemon followed by a juice or smoothie, which will boost alkalinity (aka your body’s best natural pH balance for cells to thrive), give you energy with raw living vitamins and minerals, and will hydrate you and prep you for the day ahead.

For lunch, I like to keep it light with a salad with vegetables—if you want to include a bit of protein, you can add grilled salmon or some hard boiled eggs.  Dinner is my heaviest meal. I always begin with a leafy green salad before my entree. I usually opt for either a hearty grain bowl with lots of vegetables, or I’ll do fish or lamb with roasted veggies on the side. My go-to dessert is organic dark chocolate.
Stay hydrated—just not at mealtimes.

“It’s important to drink water throughout the day, but not as much while eating so you don’t flush away all the important enzymes in your mouth and esophagus.”
Snack if you must—but make it count.

“I’m not a big snacker because I think it’s important to sit down and enjoy a meal; your body responds better to that. However, if you are a gal on the go, try packing some crudités with hummus or smashed avocado, or even summer rolls are a great option.” But avoid THIS snack at all costs. “Don’t reach for nuts as a midday snack—it’s one thing I try to steer people away from, and they are always surprised. Yes, they have healthy fats and are packed with protein, but they are very heavy on the digestive system and very dehydrating. Also, if you opt for roasted instead of raw, they become very fattening because the oil found in the nuts is compromised when heated.
