MBABANE – With the Minister of Finance Martin Dlamini having delivered the country’s budget on Friday, the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) has seen an increase of E1 million in its budget.

Government has allocated E3 313 360 for the year 2017/18. The budget has increased by E1 million as last year it stood at E2 313 360.
Stanley Dlamini, the council’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said the increase was noted as a positive move, as there was need for the budget to increase.

“The budget was not enough last year for all the projects we wanted to fund. The fact that government has considered the E1 million increase, it shows that government has seen the need to add more money, something which we appreciate,” he said.
However, the CEO said the money was still not enough as there were a lot of projects that the council would like to do.

Implemented

“We still have a number of things that need to be implemented and these include our infrastructure. We also need to improve when it comes to our festivals. We just need to have more internationally recognised festivals that will allow growth in the industry. So in as much as we note the increment, it’s still not enough for us as a council to ensure the industry is taken to greater heights,” he said.

Part of the money is used to facilitate some of the council’s programmes and also helps in funding those who come through the different associations who are the council’s affiliates.

The Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David Cruiser Ngcamphalala, could not be reached for comment as he was reported to be out of the country.
