MBABANE – Following the flop of what was meant to be one of the country’s biggest music crossover, Umdabula Festival, the concept founder is now claiming to have made an over E1 million loss.

Mbekezeli Zulu, famously known as Mdabula has taken full responsibility of the entire flop that was witnessed during the two-day festival.
Zulu claims that most of the money went towards paying the sound system used during the festival, together with the deposits that were paid to the artists. He also mentioned that some of the money were resources he used when organising the event.

Zulu admitted that there were a few things that did not go according to his plan, saying those are some of the problems that made the festival unsuccessful.
Among the problems was the none arrival of all the artists who were expected to perform, saying this should be blamed entirely on him.

“I must apologise to all those who attended the show. I am aware that most of the people had come to watch their favourite South African artists perform live. I am sorry and I take the blame for everything,” he said.  He, however, was not clear as to why he takes full blame when he claims to have paid the artists.

He claimed that he had paid most of the artists but they later came to him demanding more money as they said they were doing him a favour because for them it the busiest time of the year.

“Despite that I had paid the artists the money we had agreed on, some of them came back and claimed that their charges had changed and increased their performance fees. This disturbed me and as a result some never turned up for the show,” he said.
