MBABANE – It is survival of the fittest in this year’s Swaziland Gospel Music Awards  (SGMA) as artists have reached  a 6 000 mark in vote numbers within one  week.

Leading the pack for the very first time in the awards history is Phetsile Masilela on the Best Female Artist category. She currently has 1 342 votes. On this category she competes with Simangele Dlamini of Emandla Egazi and Mayibongwe Mthimkhulu and who are slowly catching up.

Over the past two years of the awards, Mayibongwe has always led in votes from day one of the voting process, till the very end.
This has seen her win the grand prizes of a car twice in a row, but Phetsile Dlamini is set to kick her off that number one title.

Also impressing in the Classic of All Times category is Correctional Services Gospel Choir.
The choir which competes through its famous song titled ‘Yehla Moya’ currently has 2 036 votes. In this category, the choir competes with Redemption Story and Frans Dlamini.

Zakhele Ginindza, President of the Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland (ACASWA), said they were impressed with the voting process encouraging fans to continue voting for the artists of their choice.
“The votes have been opened and artists are voting.

So far we are happy with the voting process and we encourage them to continue voting,” he said. Ginindza said they would be announcing the votes regularly so artists can know how they are doing when it comes to the votes.
“We encourage the artists to involve their supporters so they can be in a position of getting more votes,” he said.
