ORCHESTRA SCHOOL FOR SD AT LAST

MBABANE – After spending over E800 000 in three years hiring an orchestra to accompany choral music singers in competitions, the country will now have its own orchestra.

Thanks to a newly-formed arts academy known as the Pacho Art Academy, which has since introduced an orchestra training programme that will see children from the age of six years old  being taught how to play instruments for only E20 a month.
The academy is situated at the Nhlangano Training Centre. It was established in 2015 and was launched in May this year. Behind the academy is July Maziya, founder and conductor of Sishayingoma Choristers.

The academy will on September 10 unveil the training programme which will see those who are interested in playing orchestrated music taking part.  Maziya said he noted that the country needed to have its own orchestra and it was one of the reasons why he thought it was proper for him to start the academy.

The Swaziland Government through the Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini mentioned during this year’s SwaziBank School Choral Music Competition finals that government saw the need for Swaziland to have its own orchestra.  “On September 10, we will be introducing the orchestra training programme to the public,” he said. He said on the night when they launched the programme, there would be a number of performances.
