MBABANE – A locally produced film titled ‘Unfair Game: The Politics of Poaching’ produced by John Antonneli has been selected to be a part of The Zanzibar International Film Festival 2016.

The film festival will be taking place from July 9-17 in Zanzibar and Swaziland was selected with 31 other countries as having submitted one of the best films out of a record 490 countries.

The ZIFF panel has selected 80 films to compete under five different jury categories 59, General Competition, 15 sembene ousmane, 12 Bongo movies, and six films in this year’s newest jury category.

The last competition will be for the Best Music Video production, and will also take place this year. Videos that have been nominated for the competition will be revealed online tomorrow and on Thursday across the globe, as they  will be streamed straight from the Old Fort Amphitheatre in Zanzibar.

According to the ZIFF organising committee statement, “One of the most exciting developments in this year’s selection is the substantial increase in the quantity and quality of films.

‘‘Tanzania  had the greatest number of entries with over 40 films which  were received for the  competition. This year we have four  films from Tanzania competing in the Sembene Ousmane Competition.

Selection

‘‘All of East Africa features strongly in this year’s selection with five from Kenya, three from Uganda and two from Rwanda. We had only one from Swaziland and it was great enough to make it,” reads part of the statement.
