Nothing is sexier than a beautiful woman with brains as well, no this is no cliché, it is fact! Even women admire such strong willed and determined females and today we recognise and congratulate one such beauty.

Tiyandza Dlamini has been in the limelight for a while now ever since she joined Miss Swaziland. She went on to be one of Swaziland’s well-known and versatile models. So good was she on the ramp and in front of the lens she decided to form the now excelling SD Photogenic Models competition.
This is the only modelling competition in Swaziland that seeks to shine light on talented, Photogenic models and even better, single mothers are allowed to participate as well.
Today she is counted among the Young African Leaders Initiative participants (YALI), as she has been included in the United States presidents initiative. STYLE had a chat with her about her future plans and, of course, what she is all about.

Growing up ...
I grew up in Mbabane with my parents and eight siblings. I attended primary and High school at Setsembiso Sebunye High School better known as Baha’i to many. I then went on to do my Matric at Cornerstone College and Tertiary Education at Vaal University in South Africa.

Very first job in the spotlight ...
My very first job that thrust me into the local  lime light was my presenting job on Swazi TV for Coca Cola Whats Up. It was an exciting challenge for a young girl that was me at the time and I loved every moment.

Growing up  through the years ...
Honestly, these years have been all about sacrifice and putting the people you want to impact first which are young women. I have learnt that giving freely allows you to receive back more than you could ever imagine. I have learnt to be conscious of every thought, action and decision I make in my life.

Why I started SD Photogenic contest ...
I realised that there are a number of young women with dreams but some are scared, some have low-self-esteem, some have become single mothers and have just given up due to society’s perception. With this competition, I wanted to break all rules, restrictions that hinder some ladies to partake in beauty pageants. I want young women to learn to love themselves as they are...their height, body size, single mother or not one must still dream and achieve. The camera just brings enlightenment to these ladies to what they thought was imperfect about themselves, its actually what makes them unique.

Being part of YALI ...
I received an email to try my luck, I went through various interviews and eventually I got the great news that I got selected. I am leaving on  May 16  and I hope to bring back change for young women in Swaziland. I will use my resources, funds that I will obtain from this programme, to better lives of other young women.

Future goals ...
My future goal is to be CEO of Swaziland National Arts and Culture Association or to  be the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture! Crazy but hey I got nothing to lose by dreaming. I have always looked up to myself..I am competing with myself and no else..

A photogenic model is ...
A photogenic model is a women who loves everything about herself when she looks at the mirror.

My beliefs ...
I believe every person has the role to make positive change. If someone points a finger and says Swaziland has not improved in a,b,c it simply means that person has not contributed to make any change himself or herself in the country she’s living in but is simply waiting for the next person to spoon-feed them, only those who are active see change.

In my spare time ...
For fun I love taking pictures, dancing, going out with my free spirited friends and gym too of course. Friends play an important role in my life of fun, just to unwind from the daily madness.

Dream holiday destination ...
Jamaica, simply because I love the provoking dance style that the women there do..I would simply go there for the dancing

My fashion style ...
I  dress freely even if it provokes society’s perception..(laughs) Just dress to express!
