SIDVOKODVO – History was made at the Swazi Rally this year when the E22 000 grand raffle cash prize was won by a ‘Rally virgin’ and drawn on the very first try.

In the 22 years of the Swazi Rally the raffle draw cash prize had never been won after just one draw or by someone attending the rally for the very  first time, but Nelspruit resident Vusumuzi Mthsweni changed all that and  made history, on Saturday night.

The Sun Club biker was visibly shocked but ecstatic to hear his raffle number being called and rushed to the stage to claim his prize. The draw is conducted yearly where everyone gets a chance to win the grand prize, as entry is automatic for all those who attend the rally. The entry tickets collected at the gate upon payment and entry doubled up as raffle tickets.

Director of the Swazi Rally, Carlos Paiver conducted the draw just after 9pm on Saturday night in full view of the packed venue.
The raffle draw, themed ‘You snooze you lose’, which simply means as soon as the ticket number is called out the winning entrant must rush onto the stage immediately as the audience count down from 20 .

If the 20-second countdown elapses before one gets to the stage they forfeit the prize and another ticket is drawn. In the past 22 years most of the first five drawn tickets always forfeited the prize as the ticket holders would not be around to claim their prize.
“This is the first time in the history of the Swazi Rally that the grand prize is won by someone, not only attending the rally for the very  first time but also to have him present to claim it in the first round,” said Paiva.

The winner said he was still in shock as this was the last thing he had expected when his bikers club, Sun Riders, came for the Swazi Rally.
