MBABANE – A Swazi studying in the USA is flying the country’s flag high by taking part in the organising of the Inside Africa Fashion Show.

Bantu Mabaso of Mpaka, has also been chosen as the next producer of the fashion show after Nicole Kanu, a senior rhetoric major from Little Rock, Arkansas who founded it in 2012 and is leaving the college in May.

The fashion show is aimed at celebrating the cultural wealth and diversity of Africa, through performance and apparel and will be held tomorrow at Bates College, USA, where she is a student.

Pupil

Mabaso is a former pupil of Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa (UWCSA) and is doing her first year. Bates is a private liberal arts college located in Lewiston, Maine.
Mabaso has been chosen as the next producer of fashion show after Nicole Kanu.

Mabaso said Kanu’s emphasis on community-building, is what attracted her to inside Africa.
“That’s what inspires me and I feel that we can continue with it in so many different and innovative ways,” she said.

“Fashion is an up-and-coming industry in Africa. There’s definitely potential for us,” Mabaso told Lewiston Sun Journal.
It was reported that the Africana Club, a student group, sponsors and produces the event which is free and open to the public but tickets are required.
