PUPILS LIKELY TO SING UNORCHESTRATED SONGS
MBABANE – The high expense of bringing an orchestra during the SwaziBank Schools Choral Music Festival might see pupils singing songs that are not orchestrated this year.
During last year’s competition, pupils who took part in the competition were accompanied by an orchestra.
To bring the orchestra for the finals which were held in June, the Swaziland Schools Choral Music Association (SSCMA) had to part with over E110 000.
This amount included the orchestra’s performance fee which was about E60 000 including accommodation and transport.
The association was hoping that even this year, the songs would be orchestrated but because of the expense it might be impossible.
Khonelikhosi Dlamini, SSCMA Chairperson, said while they would like having the songs orchestrated, bringing the orchestra for the association was expensive.
“We are still assessing the situation but by the look of things it might not be possible as the expenses are just too high.”
Dlamini said instead, they would consider using some of the money to make sure the pupils attend the finals in South Africa.
“As an association, we believe this will help the pupils as they will get the opportunity of interacting with other musicians of their age. We believe it would be proper for us to make it possible for the winners to attend the finals.”
