MBABANE – Just when everyone thought the Nonhle Mtsetfwa saga had died down the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala will summon ACASWA and SWAMA over the issue.

SWAMA is an acronym for Swaziland Arts and Music Association while ACASWA stands for Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland.  Both associations are affiliated with the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC). The bone of contention was the artist’s appearance on SWAMA’s list during the Swaziland Consumer Fair which took place at the Mavuso Exhibition and Trade Centre late last year.

ACASWA was also part of the organisers. The latest developments come when the artist had made her decision by choosing SWAMA.
The minister said it was unfortunate that the conflict took place as this undermines the chances of investors coming to the kingdom.

He said at the moment they were talking to a certain investor from an overseas country that has a mega deal that will benefit Swazi artists but when there were such conflicts it might jeopardise such chances.
With relation to the conflict, he said Nonhle was a very young artist who needed to be given the best guidance.  He cited that what was evident in Nonhle was that she was a spiritual singer and she needed to be surrounded by people who will add value in her growth.

He pointed out that during the T55 launch he was able to have an experience of the singer’s potential and he was sure that she had a bright future. “It is unfortunate that I am not savvy with the details but I will summon the relevant associations so that we can find a lasting solution. We should make sure that this does not happen and the decision the artist takes will be in the best interest of her and her talent.”
