MBABANE - Construction companies with the know-how and niche to deliver a state of the art sports centre will have an opportunity to do so.

This as the Matsapha Town Council (MTC) is seeking tenderers for the development of the Matsapha sports centre. The council has allocated about 1.9 hectares for the construction of the sports centre. the land in question is located next to the tar road leading to Esibayeni Lodge. The tender was advertised by the Eswatini Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (ESPPRA) on its website.

MTC’s Communication Officer, Sihle Sihlongonyane confirmed that the city had identified the need for a sports centre that would cater for the health and wellness of the Matsapha residents. “The sporting centre is anticipated to have a variety of sporting facilities to cater for the Matsapha community, especially residents,” he said. MTC was hoping to implement this project through a public private partneship (PPP) arrangement. The PPP partner is expected to follow the Design Build Finance Operate Transfer (DBFOT). MTC said Matsapha lacks recreational facilities for its residents. Residents have found themselves having to travel to closer towns in order to experience recreational facilities.

They said the provision of recreational facilities was part of MTC’s strategy towards ensuring that Matsapha became a modern-day town, thus retaining its residents and even enticing others to consider Matsapha as the town to live in. MTC now invites all eligible entities to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) for the development and operation of the Matsapha Sports Centre in Matsapha. They said the objective of the expression of interest was to obtain information and potentially pre-qualify project developers to finance, develop and manage the above-mentioned project.

Suppliers

MTC said suppliers were to submit the EOI document and forms completed in all respects. The EOI document is to be kept intact, bound and listed as per the requirements mentioned in the EOI. By requirement, a bidder, including all members of a joint venture,  shall not be a firm or an organisation which has been engaged by the employer to provide consulting services for the preparation related to procurement for or implementation of the project. “MTC will notify all participating project developers after the evaluation process, or with any extended period of validity of EOI, if applicable.” Completed documents must be placed in the tender box situated at the Matsapha Town Council, Corner Police and Airport Road, Matsapha, P.O. Box 1790, MATSAPHA, before August 24, 2022 at noon.
