MBABANE – Ready to take the bull by its horns.

That is new EswatiniBank Managing Director Nozizwe Mulela, who is the first woman to occupy this position. She is not only a qualified lawyer but a trailblazer in the banking industry having worked for several financial institutions that include EswatiniBank, where she is making a return. Even though she is inheriting an institution that experienced mixed fortunes in the past few years; suffering an over E60 million loss in the past year due to COVID-19-related impairment; she is looking forward to the new task at hand. She was interviewed at the bank’s conference room on her first day at work yesterday. Mulela said it was more of a homecoming having worked at the bank before. “These are challenging times. It is key that as a bank we remember our responsibility. We are supposed to help revive the economy of the country,” she said.

Discussions

Mulela said there were discussions already on initiatives to revive the economy. She said as a local bank they had a mandate to assist emaSwati. She was responding to a question on plans to help business in distress due to COVID-19 and the recent violent protests. “We strive to offer services that are more digitally focused to serve the unique needs of the COVID-19 era, hence aligning ourselves to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We are dedicated to providing quality financial solutions to all emaSwati and to usher them into a new era of prosperity as we work toward a better customer experience for all,” she said. Meanwhile, the MD coincided with the celebration of the start of the spring season by the bank.

Importance

“May I take this opportunity to welcome you as we enter the new season, that being Spring. This season is of particular importance to me as it marks the start of new beginnings. It is not only the first day of Spring, but my first day at Eswatini Bank as the Managing Director. “Eswatini Bank will continue working towards providing its customers with quality financial services despite the challenging operating environment we are now faced with, brought to the fore by the global coronavirus pandemic,” she assured. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mulela reassured the customers that they understood the special responsibility the institution played in the health of the economy.
