MBABANE - The development of Bhunya Plaza has taken another step forward towards reality.

Ekhaya Properties has announced that they have commenced with the pre-letting of the Plaza Shopping Centre. The development of Bhunya Plaza is part of a broader development in the Bhunya area that will include a truck stop which will offer various amenities for truck drivers, a fuel depot and an adjacent light industry factory park, all part of the plan by Montigny to grow manufacturing economic activity in Bhunya centred around enterprises that are part of its upstream and downstream value chain and thus revive the once thriving fortunes of Bhunya and Mhlambanyatsi.

According to Vusumuzi Mdluli, Managing Director at Ekhaya Properties, the Plaza, planned with a gross building area of 7 270 square metres, will be situated just off the circle junction on the MR18 road to Bhunya Village. The Plaza has already secured a food retailer with their bottle store, a clinic, a hardware store and a bank as anchor tenants.

Space

“These tenants will take up at least 64 per cent of the available space in the Plaza. This leaves only 36 per cent of lettable space available to other prospective tenants in what will be a watershed development for the area of Bhunya. “We still have room for a clothing retailer/s, mobile phone service centres, a pharmacy, a fast food retailer and other smaller line stores, and we are now actively engaged in a process to secure these tenants”he added.

The developer Montigny, are based in the Bhunya and Mhlambanyatsi area and have a vision to tap into the latent value that lies in their vast property holdings around their operations and transform them into modern, vibrant industrial and residential centres. Ekhaya Properties has at the same time also started pre-letting the adjacent light industry factory shells that will range in size from 90 square metres, 180 square metres to, 270 square metres and 360 square metres. These 42 factory shells are part of the first phase of the very international development of Bhunya Industrial Estate which is primarily focused on the core industry being timber as produced by Montigny at the Bhunya saw mill.
