MBABANE – The uncertainty brought by COVID-19 has done little to derail the multi-million Emalangeni Kellogg’s Tolaram Eswatini investment project.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Senator Manqoba Khumalo said the project was expected to be commissioned by mid-December 2020.

The minister was speaking at Hilton Garden Inn in Mbabane yesterday when he provided an update on investments and re-investments to the value of over E1.3 billion unveiled in the past year. They would bring an estimated 5 000 jobs at full scale.
These investments came from conglomerates and large corporations such as Kellogg’s, Jonsson Workwear, RME Bullion, Air Liquide (expansion), Avapharm and Clockwork Giant Clothing (expansion), among others.

Investment

The projects are headlined by the Kellogg’s investment in Matsapha, which has an investment of over E200 million so far.
“Kellogg’s is already hiring; having recently advertised a total of 27 professional posts. The project will bring an estimated 200 direct jobs and 70 indirect jobs in the first phase, and this number will increase with the expansion of the investment,” said the minister.

The minister conceded a lot had happened since then, particularly the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic whose impact on investment and, by extension, the economy was nothing short of devastating.
“We have made great progress in terms of maintaining our investments. Not only that, but over the past year, we have had interest from quite a number of large enterprises from across the globe who all want to set up shop in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Some of these enterprises are already in operation and have brought with them a number of job opportunities for Emaswati.

His Excellency the Right Honourable Prime Minister will this week be launching a post COVID-19 Economic Recovery Strategy and will announce new investments worth billions of Emalangeni as part of the strategy,” said the minister, who stressed that the other upcoming investments would only be announced by the premier.
The minister listed the Kellogg’s Tolaram Eswatini as one of those investments that made great progress in terms of establishing their noodles factory in the country.
