MBABANE – ESWADE means business.  The Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise (ESWADE) has disclosed that it continues to prioritise ensuring that local business concepts see the light of day to reduce poverty and also bolster the economy.

“Business plans that have obtained loans as created by the (ESWADE) business unit are in excess of E100 million,” ESWADE disclosed in their 2017/18 annual report.

It was explained that this unit also mentored management of young companies to perform at the highest thresholds of success with excellent sound business procedures and corporate governance. Consultation services were offered for sugar cane, alternative cash crops and livestock enterprises.

Apart from issuing empowering businesses to be able to achieve their goals, ESWADE also mentioned that they had pumped in E45.3 million through the procurement of goods and services.

It was disclosed that these were procured through open tender and were necessary for the development of the project development areas, coordination and the running of studies to inform project implementation decisions.

“Tenders that were successfully procured were 17 and comprise the E45.3 million,” reads the report in part.
It was reported that local and international companies won the tenders during the procurement stage of each of the tenders.

ESWADE reported that the procured goods and services were financed by government and international funders.
During the year, there were 14 other contracts in progress that had started in the previous period.
