NGWENYA GLASS WINS BIG AT TOURISM AWARDS

MANZINI - Ngwenya Glass has been religiously committed for three years until it got the recognition it deserved.

This was confirmed by General Manager Gary Hayter after walking away with two awards for Major Attraction and Minister’s award. During an interview, Hayter, in full cheer and appreciation, stated that they had entered the competition three years in a row and that this was the first time they won. Hayter said the reason they persistently entered the competition was because Ngwenya Glass was the best in the game. “We have always been the best contenders for the best tourist attraction and we feel that is very important for the operators to participate as much as possible in events to support the tourism ministry,” said Hayter. Hlane Royal National Park General Manager Michelle Smit expressed her appreciation on behalf of the attraction site to the tourism sector. Smit said they were committed to providing quality service to emaSwati.

He further stated that they had been members for many years. The general manager mentioned that the tourist attraction site was established in 1997 and has currently employed 80 employees. Hayter mentioned that Ngwenya Glass had attracted over 100 000 tourists into the kingdom in the past year. He attributed constant innovation, development and investment banking to the business, to the success of the business. Meanwhile, Eswatini has had a 0.1 million growth in tourist attraction. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku in his speech on behalf of the Prime Minister Mandvulo Dlamini. “In 2017, 1.3 million tourists were recorded, a jump from 1.2 million in 2012,” said Masuku. He, however, stated that the tourism industry was still lagging behind in international tourists who would significantly bring foreign currencies.  Hence, he stated the importance of the industry in the kingdom.

The minister applauded the contribution made by the tourism sector in addressing unemployment and improving the livelihood of emaSwati. Masuku mentioned that the aim of the tourism industry was to be in the top 20 in Africa. The auspicious event saw various stakeholders in the tourism sector dressed to the nines for the auspicious occasion. The audience was treated to thrilling entertainment by Quad Element.
