What developments will you bring to the business community as incoming CEO of Business Eswatini?

Business Eswatini has come a long way and has made a significant impact in the sustainability of the local business environment since its inception in 1964. This institution is rich in history, and its legacy in uplifting the business sector and promoting direct investment projects in the Eswatini economy is well-documented. As the incoming CEO, it is a privilege for me to be part of this history and I intend to continue to build on the good foundation laid by my predecessors, most of whom I know and respect.

The Board has given me a clear mandate which is quite comprehensive in scope and yet particularly sensitive to the issues affecting the business membership of our organisation. While our members are, and will continue to be, our primary focus going forward, we are not unmindful of the reality that we have a symbiotic relationship with key partners such as government and labour without whom the objectives we have set for ourselves as an organisation would be difficult to achieve.

reform

With this backdrop in mind therefore, I intend to cater to the pertinent needs of our members through advocating for policy reform and other necessary measures, in a bid to create a vibrant private sector. For this to happen, a conducive environment has to be created and one can confidently look up to our government to get the job done in this regard. And let me hasten to add that this new government seems to hold much promise and we have no reason to think she (government) will not be as keen or swift in the implementation of the necessary market reforms to turbo-charge the economy and mitigate the economic malaise, the likes of which are almost unprecedented. It is the business sector as a productive engine that needs to punch above its weight in order to turn around the fortunes of this country. But we all know that this will not be possible if the many artificial hurdles in the way of progress and development are not removed completely.
