MBABANE – The only development which improved in Eswatini’s Ease of Doing Business is the process it takes to register property.

The World Bank, in its 16th edition of the Ease of Doing Business report 2018, ranked Eswatini 107 out of 190 economies. This was an improvement by eight places from 115 in the 2018 report.

Explaining what had been the major contributing factor in the impressive improvement in the country’s property registration ranking; World Bank said; “Registering property in Eswatini made registering property easier by increasing the transparency of the land registry.”

Registrar of Deeds Thabiso Masina illuminated on how they had improved transparency through availing information on the official website.
Masina explained that previously, there had been a misconception that only lawyers could access Deeds Registry files and all other relevant documentation pertaining to property in Eswatini.

“We opened up access to every member of the public provided they have paid the requisite search fees,” said Masina.
