MBABANE – Millenium Tent Makers (Pty) Ltd wants E54 060.60 from Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) for their damaged industrial equipment.

The company has filed an application before the High Court where it has also applied that the above sum be paid with interest calculated at the rate of nine per cent per annum.

Through their attorneys from Manyatsi and Associates, the Matsapha Industrial Sites based company, which manufactures and refurbishes tents claimed that in January 25, 2018 personnel employed and or contracted by EEC attended to the electricity distribution line next to their business.

However, the said personnel while conducting works, a massive explosion occurred from the power distribution lines owned by the EEC which resulted into a surge of electric voltage being transmitted to their business household.

Consequent to this, Millenium Tent Makers averred that their business machinery – a tarp welding machine and two compressors- which had been plugged into the power supply line at the time; “suffered great harm in that they were left dysfunctional after the incident which was caused by the surge in the electric voltage,” read the particulars of claim containing allegations whose veracity is yet to be tested in court.

The company claimed that their business suffered damages as a result of the high electric voltage transmitted from EEC’s power distribution line they had to endure costs of repairs to the equipment. In particular, the company submitted that the welding machine had to be repaired in South Africa.

Millenium Tent Makers also alleged that they suffered a loss of business profits because they could not service orders from their customers from the date of the incident up until February 9 when the repairs were effected.

“This resulted into Millenium Tent Makers customers withdrawing their orders,” it was alleged.
The matter is pending in court.
