MBABANE – Five companies are in the race to be granted the E150 million tender for supply and delivery of pharmaceuticals for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

B. Braun Medical, Pharm Industry Swaziland, Swazi Pharm Wholesalers, V&H Surgical and Patient Care suppliers, together with ASD Medical have been recommended for award by the Ministry of Health to execute the multimillion tasks at hand.

Among the contending companies, Swazi Pharm Wholesalers stand to enjoy a large piece of the ‘cake’ as they have been recommended for E132 million, while V&H Surgical and Patient Care suppliers could get the smallest piece as they have only been enlisted to get E977 659.

Evaluation

In tender, evaluation results issued by the Swaziland Public Regulatory Agency (SPPRA) and signed off by Principal Secretary Simon Zwane, it has been disclosed that five companies failed to make the cut for recommendation to be awarded the tender.

The unsuccessful tenderers were; Magaye Medical Equipment and Supplies (Pty) Ltd, Spec Pharm (Pty) Ltd, Vishmatra DMCC from Dubai, Pharm Pharm Medical and Surgical Suppliers and Johnson & Johnson Medical Pty Ltd.

Reasons why some of the companies were not among the list of tenderers recommended for award included being unable to provide information for technical requirement - presence of technical staff, a health worker fully and registration with a relevant professional body, which was a mandatory requirement for companies bidding for medical supplies.

Include

Other companies also did not include a copy of their practicing certificates.
In terms of the Public Procurement Act of 2011, Zwane announced that a period of 10 working days would be allowed for the submission of any application for review.

Most recently, Eclipse Investments proved their competitive edge and efficiency in the catering industry through being the biggest winners in the E23 million catering tender for government health facilities.
Out of the five companies to provide catering services for the next 12 months, Eclipse got the largest chunk of the E23 million which had been set aside.

Tender evaluation results reflected that Eclipse stands to pocket E7.8 million to provide food at health facilities.

Provision

For provision of the required services at health centres countrywide, the company had submitted the price of E32 635 299, which was, however, reduced during evaluation.

Eclipse was closely followed by Fifth Avenue, which also stood to pocket E7.5 million for the provision of similar services.
Other companies which also formed part of the list that stood to be awarded contracts for provision of catering services at health facilities included; Caterwell (E4.9 million), Molly’s House of Grill (E3.5 million) and Capitol Caterers (E2.3 million).
