MBABANE – The Swaziland Civil Aviation Authority (SWACAA) will pay nearly E650 000 for evaluation of King Mswati III International Airport.

A Swazi company, Christian Amoako & Co Pty Ltd, has already undergone evaluation and stands to be granted the tender for the evaluation in an exercise which SWACAA claims is a standard procedure.

When asked what had prompted SWACAA to undertake the evaluation process of the airport, Senior Communications Officer Makhosazana Simelane said: “As an ISO certified organisation this is standard procedure.

In addition SWACAA is required by International Aviation rules to insure aviation infrastructure used by the public.
“Actual current values are required by insurers to set the premiums. Furthermore, best practice requires that every four years such an evaluation must be done.”

In terms of how the evaluation would help improve efficiency of the service offered at the airport, Simelane disclosed that SWACAA was ISO certified for maintenance of efficiency in operations.
She explained that one part of operations was the assessment of the value of the airport infrastructure. Simelane pointed out that this would further guide how much it would be set aside for maintenance of the airport.

Quizzed as to when the evaluation was expected to start, Simelane clarified that as soon the 10 days has elapsed, a contract to engage the company would be signed and then work begins.
