MBABANE – Corporate and other business entities will now be able to hold meetings thousands of miles apart without having all of their time monopolised by travelling.

This comes after Swaziland’s second mobile telecommunications company, Swazi Mobile, launched the high tech digital device known as the Voice over LTE yesterday.

Known as the second phase of voice evolution for mobile LTE devices, the VoLTE operates as a native application in the user’s device which is not available in others many of which users have become accustomed to in their 2G and 3G telephony experiences.

Enhanced

The experiences offered by VoLTE include video telephony, enhanced address book features such as presence or status and this includes location, pictures and other content and rich media file sharing.
In simpler terms, VoLTE is a network that allows voice calls over a 4G LTE network rather than the 2G or 3G connection that is usually used.

Its advantage is that it takes over most of the services such as voice and SMS and is therefore a much richer experience than the other technologies.
During the launch, the Minister of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Dumisani Ndlangamandla made a perfect demonstration as he addressed the attendees by appearing on the company’s big screen where he made his remarks despite that he was not actually present but was seated in his office.

Potential

The use of the VoLTE is becoming a trend worldwide with the reality being that meetings have the potential of impeding the flow of work and can tie up management in the cumbersome process of closing the distance to connect.
Swazi Mobile Acting Chief Executive Officer Wandile Mtshali explained that the time had come for the country to have the kind of technology that would make corporate partners share meetings taking place in their offices with those that are at home.

“As Swazi Mobile we are proud to be the first in the country to introduce such technology. Our corporate partners can now be part of what is discussed in their offices from whenever they are,” he stated.

Highlighted

Mtshali highlighted that the service enabled high quality voice calling which would make customers hear those that they are chatting with in clear tones as if they were sitting close to them.

However, he highlighted that the service depended on the type of phone that customers were using.
He encouraged members of the public to sign for the Swazi Mobile contract packages worth E995 saying they would be given free Cubit cellphones.

At the end of the launch yesterday, representatives of Swazi Mobile’s corporate partners including Old Mutual and Swazi Bank were presented with the cellphones by Chief Customer Executive Gciniwe Fakudze.

Connect

Brand and Communications Manager Macford Sibandze highlighted that for their customers to connect they needed a VoLTE provisioned SIM card and a VoLTE compatible device.

“In our current offering, these devices are the Cubot Magic and Cubot Cheetah and other models are still being tested.
‘‘The advantages of such a service include increased battery life, video calling, HD voice call, faster call set up, increased speed and coverage throughout,” he said.
