MBABANE — Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS) President Maxwell Dlamini has lost the elections race of the University of Swaziland (UNISWA) Students Representative Council (SRC).

Dlamini had been nominated for the post of Kwaluseni Chairperson.

The elections were conducted on Tuesday and counting was done during the night as the results were released yesterday morning.

Dlamini ran for the post with Brian Sangweni - BCom 4th year student, Sibusiso Gamedze - LLB 4th year student and Hasso Magagula – LLB 3rd year student. Hasso Magagula amassed 320 votes to land the position.

UNISWA Electoral Officer (EO) and Former SRC President Sibusiso Nhlabatsi released the results.

The SNUS President received 294 votes while Sibusiso Gamedze got 174 votes.

Former Kwaluseni Chairperson Sibusiso Dlamini was voted the SRC President sometime last week.

"Competition was stiff in this year’s elections.

"There were many BCom students vying for the post this year," Nhlabatsi noted.

Asked why most Law students were dominating the SRC composition, Nhlabatsi said it was the will of the students who elect their leaders democratically.

"You will note that the President is an Education student, which indicates that students from other disciplines were also voted for that position two weeks ago," he said.

The other campuses are yet to conduct elections, Nhlabatsi said.
