GR. Mamba sign Zimbabweens Mkandawire, Namadzawu
MATSAPHA – Green Mamba have boosted their 2012/13 squad by signing two Zimbabwean players.
The duo of midfielder Charles Mkandawire and striker Tendai Namadzawu started training with the team in June. Green Mamba PRO, Vusi Kunene, confirmed yesterday they had boosted their squad by signing the two players after they impressed the technical bench.
He said the team was hoping to play in the CAF Confederation Cup so there was a need to boost the squad with international players.
"They are our players now and we hope their contribution will help the team win honours. They came for trials and the technical bench was impressed with their performance," he said.
A source close to the matter said there were four foreigners vying to join the team but only the two made the cut.
The source said the players were good and the Correctional Services side was hopeful that they will add value, especially in the CAF Confederation Campaign and the MTN Premier League to kick-off on the weekend of August 25 and 26.
The players were spotted yesterday training with the green and white outfit at the Correctional Services sports ground under the watchful eye of coach, Lloyd Mutasa.
Green Mamba has now registered three foreigners including Cameroonian Roger Bahiya after the exit of Zimbabwean Stanford Ncube from the team.
