Government premises turned into lovers' nest
MANZINI – Government premises near the Swaziland Milling in Manzini have been turned into a sex den as used condoms, morning after pills, underwear and tissues are found discarded on a daily basis.
Government workers residing within the compound, which overlooks Mangwaneni, are complaining about the use of the property for engaging in sexual acts.
The civil servants said the discarded material was a concern as children also had access to the government plot.
When this reporter visited the area yesterday, boxer shorts and women’s underwear were found at the property. Also on the ground, was a used condom. A government employee, who commented on condition of annonymity, said they make a fire to destroy the items.
"This is also a health risk to us as most of the used items, such as condoms and tissues contain human body fluids."
The civil servant said different cars pull up at the yard from about midnight for the sexual escapades.
"They either get out of the cars or do it inside. We are too scared to chase them away because some of them may be armed. We are now even used to seeing some of the cars," he said.
Another civil servant said government had to install a security gate which would deter the couples from using the government yard.
Some of the garages meant for the parking of the employees’ cars were dilapidated. The civil servants said the couples occasionally park their cars in the garages after which they have sex.
The Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Tran-sport Paul Nkambule said he would send officials to inspect the premises and look into prospects of protecting the government employees.
"We were not aware such was happening. Though government is broke for now, we will do something because these lawless people may eventually vandalise government property."
Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Wendy Hleta, adv-ised that a security guard be emp-loyed for the government flats.
