Suspect involved in 3 fights'
MBABANE – Njabulo Mamba, the suspected Sim-unye Fun Fair murderer, was allegedly involved in three fights on that fateful night.
One of the fights led to the death of Byron ‘Ziggy’ Carvalho who was stabbed to death in the early hours of October 22, 2010.
Carvalho allegedly died on the spot after he bled profusely from the stab wound which was inflicted in the chest.
Banele Ndlandla, who was in the company of the accused on the night narrated to the court how Mamba and his friends allegedly consumed large amounts of alcohol for the duration of the night.
They were allegedly very drunk and got involved in three fights.
Ndlandla said trouble began when he pointed out to Mamba and his friends, one boy who had allegedly assaulted him (Ndlandla) on a different occasion while at school.
Mamba and one Mampengane Mdluli, allegedly went for the boy (whose name could not be ascertained) and assaulted him.
They allegedly dispossessed the boy of a knife and took it with them.
At around 4am, it was alleged, one Elvovo, Mdluli’s acquaintances came next to the youngsters. A fight allegedly ensued between the group of friends and two young men who were standing at a distance, but not very far from them.
The bone of contention, it was alleged, was that one of the men was looking at them and they exchanged heated words, which led to a fight.
While fighting, Simanga Maziya a soldier, tried to stop them.
"Mamba then ran away and Carvalho ran after him. When Mamba stopped, he withdrew a knife and stabbed Carvalho in the chest and he collapsed.
Mamba took to his heels and disappeared into the crowd," Ndlandla alleged.
Mamba is alleged to have told his friends that he had stabbed the ‘fool’ three times.
The youngsters allegedly went to pass time inside the kombi in which they were travelling. It was alleged that while they were there, another man came around and accused one of the occupants of having crossed his path.
"Zakhe Mabuza, Mamba and Mdluli assaulted the man. Mabuza went into the kombi, retrieved a knife and stabbed the man three times. Mdluli hit him with a bottle. The security guards came for us, but we outpaced them and hid in the sugar cane fields," Ndlandla alleged. The gang was apprehended by the police one by one and they were taken in for questioning.
