Ngwane principal's office burnt
NHLANGANO – Part of the office of the Principal of Ngwane Practising Primary School was burnt over the long weekend.
The exact cause of the fire, which decimated part of the locked office, is not known yet.
Police officers from the bomb disposal unit ruled out earlier suspicions that a petrol bomb had been thrown into the office.
The damage was discovered by the Principal, Shadrack Nhlapho, at around 7:15am when opening the office for the commencement of the day’s business yesterday.
It is suspected the incident happened at night over the weekend.
"We are all confused and want to know the motive behind the fire. I am glad that no life was lost and we wish the police arrest the person behind this act soon.
"As a result of the incident pupils went home early," a source said.
Police officers from the Shiselweni Serious Crimes Unit (Lukhozi) and Nhlangano police arrived at the school and recorded statements.
When this reporter visited the school yesterday afternoon, Shiselweni Crime Branch Officer (RCBO), Superintendent Vetboy Dlamini, in the company of two police officers from the police Headquarters in Mbabane, were found talking to the deputy.
Some of the burnt items include stationery, trophies, curtains and furniture. The damage is estimated at E4 000.
A comment from the principal could not be obtained as he was not found at the school and his cellphone was switched off.
Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Wendy Hleta, confirmed the matter and said investigations were being conducted.
The school is under the governance of the Ngwane Teachers Training College and a comment from the principal, Dr Amos Mahlalela, could not be obtained as he was said to be in a meeting when called yesterday afternoon.
