MBABANE – The Royal Swaziland Police have arrested and charged two people who are alleged to be the ringleaders of a syndicate that is believed to be facilitating the departures of Swazis to Canada and Europe.

It is believed that the documents of the departing Swazis are falsified to facilitate their entry and stay in foreign countries.

The two will appear today at the Manzini Magistrates Court.

The suspects were rounded up last week by the Lukhozi Serious Crimes Unit and the Manzini police.

Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Wendy Hleta confirmed the arrests.

The two according to impeccable sources, are alleged to be ringleaders in making forged documents and formulating reasons for seeking asylum for the Swazis who left the country to settle overseas.

Some of the Swazis that left the country are alleged to be seeking political asylum. "The two suspects have been arrested in connection to the departures of Swazis to other countries, but more details will be availed as the case will be before the courts. They will appear today at the Magistrates Court," said Hleta adding that the police have arrested a male and a female.

A Swazi woman, Zandile Ndlela was recently arrested in Germany enroute to Canada where she had meant to visit a friend.

Ndlela’s Visa indicated that she was meant to be in Cananda when she was arrested in Germany.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was instrumental in bringing Ndlela back. The civil servant, who is the Kwaluseni Inkhundla Clerk refused to speak to the media upon her return to Swaziland.

Why do the police arrest people for smuggling people out of the country since Swaziland does not have anything to offer its citizens. Currently the country is faced with a high level of unemployment and poor wages/salaries. The best option is to therefore find ways be they legal or illegal to leave this country in order to get a better livelihood elsewhere. I would not even be surprised to hear that some Swazi's have left the country to join forces like Al Qaeda. This is an indication that the people can do anything to get of this country that has gone to the dogs!!!
